The city was founded on February 5, 1780 by decree of Catherine II. Its original name — Ust-Sysolsk. In 1930 the city was renamed Syktyvkar. This name in the Komi translation means - «City on Sysol». . . . Syktyvkar is the administrative center of the Republic of Komi. The city is located in the northeast of the European part of Russia in 1410 km.
