
The National Museum of the Republic of Komi is one of the first scientific and cultural and educational institutions of Komi Krai, founded in October 1911.
The museum has the only collection of material, written and visual evidence in the republic, covering a significant layer in the history of the region, starting with the first archaeological monuments of the Paleolithic era (28-30,000 years BC), ending with sources of political and socio-economic history of the early XXI century. Throughout the centuries-old history of the museum, a collection of more than 250 thousand units of storage was formed, including unique monuments of iconography of the XVI-XX centuries, a collection of numismatics.
Thousands B.C. — II thousand A.D., collection of objects of material and spiritual culture of the Komi people, natural science collections, the richest photodocumentary archive, collections of everyday life items of all segments of the population of the region of various chronological periods, archives and collections of outstanding political and public figures of the republic, creative intelligentsia.

The main expositions are located in buildings - monuments of history and architecture.
The museum does a lot of work with visitors. Among the museum activities, special place is occupied by excursions and lectures on the ethnography of the Komi people. Folklore and environmental children's holidays are especially popular.
The museum carries out research and publishing activities, holds scientific conferences and seminars. In recent years, the museum has been actively working on the introduction of new information technologies in historical and cultural projects. The National Museum of the Republic of Komi has repeatedly participated in grant competitions.
