National Gallery of the Republic of Komi (until 1994) — Comey Republican Art Museum was founded in Syktyvkar in 1943. Its immediate predecessor was the Republican Art Museum. However, the initial stage of the formation of the meeting was associated with the fine art of the coma.

The exhibition of works by local artists opened for public visit in November 1947. During the existence, in addition to the national, there were other sections: Russian pre-revolutionary and Soviet, foreign.

The result of the collection and restoration work was the first permanent exhibition, representing all sections of the collection. It was opened on August 22, 1993 on two floors of the reconstructed building of the former spiritual school, built in 1888-1990 by the project of the Vologda architect Fedorov.

Currently, the collections of the gallery include about 10 thousand exhibits of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied art and folk art. The main content of the gallery at the present stage is the study and popularization of collections, its presentation to a wide range of viewers.
